1. Britney Spears, I Run Away (36 Plays)

I Run Away? Number one? It's a fucking brilliant little pop song, here's a video to prove this:

It was released as a B-Side to the worst Britney Spears song of all time, (I'm Not A Girl...), and also on some special editions of Britney. It is rare, y'all. It is one of only three Britney Spears songs that I think are legitimately perfect, the other two being Baby One More Time and Toxic. It is better than those songs. It's a ballad without being silly, it's electronic without being over-the top. Nobody pretends like Britney has a great voice but it's perfect for the song. When I heard it I was surprised and thrilled, and it stayed with me the whole damn year. Certainly a deserving number one.

SOME STATISTICS:
Artists most on the Top 101 list: Alison Krauss & Union Station and Nelly Furtado. Both have six songs apiece, but Nelly also had three different verisons of Promiscuous so Alison gets the nod.
Number of songs added in 2006: 2,296 items, includes songs, music videos and movies.
Most recent song on the Top 101: M.I.A., XR2 (At unofficial position 93 with ten plays. Added on December 3rd).
Least recent song: Fall Out Boy, Dance, Dance (At official position 15 with twenty plays. Added on January 5th).

A great year for music. Today a new playlist starts for 2007. Time to get crazy!
